Marcia's Crumble Top Apple Pie

Marcia's Crumble Top Apple Pie Pie Ingredients:
8 medium apples (Gravensteins are best)
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tbsp. lemon juice
Pastry for 1 crust pie

Line pie pan with the pastry. Peel, core and cut apples into thin slices. Place slices into a large bowl and add sugar, flour, spices and lemon juice. Mix the ingredients gently until the apple slices are well coated. Pour apples into the pie pan. Heap the topping mixture on top of the apples. Place the pie pan on a baking sheet that has been covered with foil.

This pie will spill over. Bake 10 minutes at 425° F. Then reduce heat to 350° F and bake for an additional 50 minutes or until the apple mixture is bubbling and juicy. This is wonderful served warm with vanilla ice cream.

Topping Ingredients:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup butter softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

In medium bowl mix flour, sugar and cinnamon. Cut in the butter until it resembles a coarse meal.
