2004 Magnolia Lane Sauvignon Blanc

Harvest/Winemaking

  • The wine is crafted from a blend of 81% Sauvignon Blanc, 15% Semillon, and 4% Viognier.
  • The Sauvignon Blanc was harvested on August 12 thru 14 at 23.5° Brix. The Semillon was harvested on August 19 at 21.3° Brix and the Viognier on August 18 and 19 at 23.8° Brix.
  • Some of the fruit was picked at lower sugars and, after crushing and destemming, held cold at 40° in tank for 8 hours before pressing. This accentuates the grapefruit and spearmint components.
  • The balance of the harvest, picked at a higher Brix, was conveyed directly to the press without crushing. These grapes provide the dominant flavors of peach and melon to the final blend.
  • 20% of the cuvee was aged in small French oak cooperage. The remainder was aged in stainless steel for 3 months before bottling.

Food Pairing

Heirloom tomatoes with cold pesto sauce or oysters on the half shell served with a mignonette sauce.

Winemaker's Comments

"Our 2004 Magnolia Lane Sauvignon Blanc combines ripe fruit with brisk acidity and a touch of mineral austerity that resolve into a ripe, juicy fruit finish. I find flavors of white grapefruit combined with more floral elements of guava, aromatic citrus and spearmint. Packed with flavor for immediate enjoyment, the wine will evolve beautifully over the next two to three years."
