Winemaking
Grenache is a late ripening grape and 2009 was a year slightly later than normal. It took a lot of patience in the vineyard with all the grapes used for this blend, but we achieved wonderful perfumey flavors, beautiful color, and a nice low pH in this rose.
The Grenache and Syrah used in this blend were held on their skins at cool temperatures for 4 - 6 hours before the juice was drained off and cold-settled. A slow, cool fermentation preserved the juicy flavors formed by our specially selected strains of yeast. The Syrah rose was aged for two months in seasoned barrels, and the remainder of the blend stayed in stainless steel until bottling in March 2010.
