Winemaking begins in the vineyard each year where we are involved with all aspects of viticulture from canopy and fruit management to vine hydration and hang time. Our three highest elevation vineyards supplied the fruit for this wine, where the grapes were hand-picked at first light and received the utmost attention by the careful hands of the harvest crew. Small sized, 2 to 3 ton fermentors received both pumpovers and punch downs during primary fermentation. Skin contact was over 45 days and the different varieties were aged separately until the final racking. The wine was aged for 24 months in small French oak cooperage (47% new) and bottled in April 2019.
Winemaker's Notes: "Mountain grown fruit tends to have a flavor intensity and structure that is completely unique to the rugged terroir of the upper Kunde Estate – ideal for true varietal expression. I am very pleased to offer this highly refined creation from this end of the Mayacamas range, known as the Moon Mountain District. The wine will stand up to blue cheese, sweet dates and any other rich food that might dwarf a regular wine. Try pairing it with a high quality steak or roast for an amazing meal!"
