2016 Chardonnay - C.S. Ridge Vineyard, Sonoma Valley
Fresh and lively, our 2016 Chardonnay - C.S. Ridge Vineyard is a mineral driven vineyard designate wine from our estate vineyards in the Sonoma Valley. Granny Smith apple, cinnamon and caramel round out the aroma and flavor profile and finishes with a soft touch of beautifully integrated oak.
We enjoyed a wonderfully long and warm growing season in 2016 that allowed even and steady flavor accumulation. Canopy management was very important in order to reduce direct sunlight on the clusters with the goal being to maintain the natural acid in the grapes. This cuvee was 100% barrel fermented in a mixture of French oak barrels for ten months with use of extended sur lies aging and bi-weekly stirring to encourage malolactic fermentation and optimal flavor development. The wine was bottled in July 2017.
“Kunde Family Winery is home to one of the most diverse properties in the Sonoma Valley, with dramatic elevation changes. Its physical location in the heart of the Sonoma Valley offers a surprising contrast between vineyard sites. Selected from the C.S. Ridge block, the vines awaken early in the spring and remain ahead in maturity compared to the rest of the estate Chardonnay blocks. The acid that the grapes maintain is the key to the bright and chewy fruit this wine offers.”
