2017 Viognier, Sonoma Valley
The bouquet of this golden-hued wine is filled with aromas of Meyer lemon and lychee fruit. Ripe flavors of honeydew melon, peach and orange continue through to the palate with a bright acidity and a lively finish. This Viognier makes an excellent choice to serve with spicy fare.
2017 summer temperatures were average for the growing and harvest season here on the estate. The Viognier grapes reached optimal flavors and were harvested prior to the cooling temperatures and rainfall in September. The wine was fermented cold in stainless steel tanks, with a portion fermented in 60 gallon stainless steel drums. We did not allow the wine to go through malolactic fermentation which helped to retain the bright fruit elements in the finished wine. To enrich the crispness on the palate, the wine did not see any time in oak cooperage. Bottling was completed in April 2018.
“We enjoy our Viognier best on the patio. It begins crisp and ripe and fills out on the palate with beautiful texture. This Viognier is intended to drink slowly in order to allow the wine to evolve over a leisurely experience. It's become one of our new favorites for pairing with spicy foods—think Thai or Kung Pao!”
