Barbera, a grape commonly associated with the Piedmont region of Italy, has found a great home here on the hillsides of the Sonoma Valley. Tucked securely into south west facing ravines, the grapes flourish in the California sun, protected from the coolest temperatures. Known for its rich violet hue, intense fruit flavors and pronounced acidity, Barbera has become one of our most versatile wines for pairing with a wide range of food styles.
“There’s nothing quite like the textural experience one undergoes while tasting a Barbera. I have always described a “fuzzy tannin” as an interaction with the molars, which only occurs in Italian varietals for me. When I pick up a bottle of Barbera, I envision a big pasta meal with friends and family, as the hum of conversations become too loud to compete with. I wonder if a great bottle (or two) of Barbera was the compliment or the catalyst to the good vibe.”
