Chocolate Toffee Bars

Zippity-do-dah! These are scrumptious. Perfect for a picnic!!!

Chocolate Toffee BarsIngredients:
  • 1 1/2 cups dark chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup toasted almonds or hazelnuts - chopped
  • 1/2 cup toffee pieces - chopped (you can buy toffee chips or chop up a toffee bar)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
Crust:
  • 3/4 cup butter - room temperature
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cut a sheet of parchment in half and place one half horizontally overa a lightly buttered 8 x 8 baking dish and the other half vertically, making sure that it lies evenly. Set aside.

To prepare the crust, using a mixer, cream butter and sugars together until light and fluffy. Add flour and salt and mix until blended. Transfer dough to baking pan and with the back of a measuring cup, a spatula, or your hand, press dough evenly into pan. Refrigerate for 15 minutes. Place in oven and bake for 20-25 minutes until edges are golden brown. Meanwhile prepare the topping ingredients.

Remove pan from oven and quickly spread the chocolate chips over the crust. Let sit a few minutes and then spread evenly with an off-set spatula. Sprinkle with nuts, toffee bits and salt. Allow to cool for 1 hour. If not set when ready to cut, place in refrigerator for 15 mintues or so until set. Cut into bars and serve.
