2017 Signature Rosé, Sonoma Valley
The 2017 growing season was warm and moderate, allowing for even grape ripening and a true expression of varietal flavor development throughout the Kunde Estate. This Rosé is made primarily from Grenache grapes, which offer flavors of white peaches and strawberries. Harvest began early in the morning with hand picking of the chilled fruit, which helps to preserve the wine’s natural acidity and adds phenolic texture. Once crushed, the Grenache juice was allowed to soak on the skins for a short four hours prior to being pressed, which resulted in the wine’s lovely salmon hue. Cold fermentation maximized the delicate aromas and crisp acidity. Our Signature Rosé was aged in stainless steel for seven months before the final blending and bottled in March 2018.
“Grenache is a limited production varietal on the property, but it is so good we had to make a small Rose selection. Grenache is normally low in color pigments to begin with so it seems natural to want to make something delicate but with a fruit presence. We also added a touch of Syrah for an extra fruit layer; growing just above our aging caves they become a beautiful visual representation of this beautiful wine.” - Zach Long, Winemaker
